The Brief Therapy Group (BTG) is an Irish-based organisation dedicated to providing opportunities for training and development in the field of brief therapy. It is the leading provider of solution focused brief therapy training in Ireland and is active in the field of research.

Its members have written extensively in the field of brief therapy including numerous research papers and three professional books: Becoming a Solution Detective: A Strengths Based Guide to Brief Therapy (BT Press 2001), Solution Focused Groupwork (Sage 2001) and Counselling Children, Adolescents and Families A Strengths-Based Approach (Sage, 2003).

Its members are Melissa Darmody, Brendan Madden, John Sharry and Karen Ward.

 
 
Dr. Melissa Darmody DPsy. Clin Doc, MSc, Post MSc Dip, MIACP, MIITD, EAPA, Reg. Psych PSI, CEAP

Melissa is a counselling psychologist with a doctorate in counselling psychology. She is accredited with the Psychology Society of Ireland and provides training workshops nationally and internationally on brief therapy interventions. She has ten years' experience in the development and delivery of EAP services to organisations in Ireland and abroad. She is Clinical Director of EAP Solutions and has particular expertise in working with victims of trauma and abuse. She has co-authored a professional textbook on solution focused brief therapy. She is a founding member and current president of the Irish chapter of the Employees Assistance Professionals Association (EAPA), and a member of the Irish Institute of Training and Development (IITD).
 
Dr John Sharry D.Psych, MSc, BA Hons, CQSW, MIACP, DASS, Dip. Couns,

Dr. John Sharry is a family and child psychotherapist and author of ten books in counselling and mental health including three best selling positive psychology books including Becoming a Solution Detective, and Counselling Children Adolescents and Families and seven popular self-help books for parents and families, such as Bringing up Responsible Teenagers,  Parenting preschoolers and young children,  When Parents Separate- helping your children cope, Coping with Depression in Young People and the newly released : Positive Parenting: Bringing up responsible, well-behaved and happy children.
     John is also the co-developer of the award winning Parents Plus Programmes ( video based parenting courses ) as well as the Working Things Out Programme (a  multimedia therapeutic resource for young people overcoming mental health problems) which are used extensively in services and schools throughout Ireland.
     John is a regular contributor to radio and the national media, is the featured parenting expert and life coach on the VHI website and has formerly worked as a weekly columnist with the Evening Herald for five years writing on the subject of parenting and family life. He has also written articles for the Irish Times and Health publications on a variety of health related topics.
     A renowned teacher and lecturer, John is well known for his engaging, inspirational and informative presentation style.
